ItÕs obvious Proudinsky likes racing at Fair Grounds the second Saturday in March. For the second consecutive year, the German-bred runner won the Mervin Muniz Jr. Memorial Handicap (gr. IIT) that day at the track. This yearÕs running drew a full field of 14. Proudinsky finished a nose in front of El Caballo, who nosed out Nownownow for second. ProudinskyÕs two wins in the Mervin Muniz Jr. Memorial have yielded $600,000, more than half the horseÕs career earnings of $1,090,377. Bred in Germany by Dr. Rolf Wilhelms, Proudinsky made his first two starts in Germany in 2006. Proudinsky won by 15 lengths in his first start and was stakes-placed in his second. He then was acquired privately by prominent international owner Gary Tanaka and brought to the United States. In his initial start for Tanaka, Proudinsky was beaten a nose in the Arlington Classic (gr. IIIT) that July. He closed the year with a win in the Bay Meadows Derby (gr. IIIT). Proudinsky no longer races for Tanaka. He has raced since December 2008 for Johanna Louise Glen-Teven. Bobby Frankel, who started training Proudinsky during the horseÕs early days in the U.S., stayed on as trainer. ProudinskyÕs sire, German-bred champion Silvano, raced for a time in North America. As a 5-year-old in 2001, he won the Arlington Million Stakes (gr. IT) and ran second in the Man oÕ War Stakes (gr. IT). Proudeyes, the German-bred dam of Proudinsky, has joined her son in the U.S. She was bought by Fred SeitzÕ Brookdale Farm for $108,449 at the 2007 Tattersalls December breeding stock sale. Consigned by Ronald Rauscher, agent, she was in foal to Lomitas. ProudeyesÕ resultant foal from that mating, a filly named Pavie, was consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent, to the 2008 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. Pavie was purchased by Elisabeth Fabre for $90,000. Thirteen-year-old Proudeyes resides at Brookdale near Versailles, Ky. She is in foal to Corinthian and is due March 29. She is booked to Street Boss. Silvano has sired 14 stakes winners. He stands at Main Chance Farms in South Africa. His fee is 50,000 rands (approximately $5,000).ÑD.S |
