Street Boss has been an unstoppable force ever since he jumped up to stakes company, and the July 27 Bing Crosby Handicap (gr. I) at Del Mar was no different. The 4-year-old Street Cry colt went off as the race favorite and defeated In Summation by a length.
Trainer Bruce Headley owns the chestnut colt in partnership with Marsha Naify and Simon YuÕs Bluegate. Street Boss gave Headley his fourth win in the Bing Crosby, which he also took with Son of a Pistol in 1998 and Kona Gold in 2000 and 2001.
Street Boss did not start racing until September of his 3-year-old season, but when he did, he broke his maiden at first asking. He has won six of seven starts this year, and three of those have come in graded stakes company. In addition to the Bing Crosby, he took the May 10 Los Angeles (gr. III) and July 5 Triple Bend Invitational (gr. I) Handicaps.
Headley is no stranger to top sprinters. Kona Gold, who he also co-owned, took four other graded stakes races in 2000 in addition to the Bing Crosby, including the BreedersÕ Cup Sprint (gr. I). As a result, he was named champion sprinter.
Street Boss was acquired through agent Worldwide Bloodstock for $300,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September yearling sale from Woods Edge Farm, agent. He was bred in Kentucky by Brilliant Stable.
Don and Dana MyersÕ Swifty Farms now owns Street BossÕ dam, the stakes-placed Ogygian mare Blushing Ogygian. She was bought in foal to UnbridledÕs Song for $425,000 at the 2005 Keeneland November mixed sale from Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Blushing Ogygian, who is also the dam of the multiple graded stakes-placed filly Habiboo, was not bred for this year, and her youngest offspring is a yearling Speightstown filly. The 14-year-old mare is in foal to Half Ours.
Street Cry is the sire of 19 stakes winners including additional 2008 added-money winners Zenyatta (gr. I), Desert Party, winner of the July 24 Sanford Stakes(gr. II), SweepÕs Cry, Summer Doldrums, and Sarthemare (in Australia). The 10-year-old son of Machiavellian stood the 2008 season at Darley near Lexington for $100,000.ÑA.H.D.
