Mambo Meister, second in last yearÕs Miami Mile Handicap (gr. IIIT), outdid himself in the 2010 edition of the race, catching favored Pinckney Hill in deep stretch to post a head victory in the one mile turf event at Calder Casino and Race Course.
With the win, Mambo Meister further indicated his affinity for the Calder course. All eight of the geldingÕs career wins have come at the Florida oval, including six stakes wins on dirt and turf from one mile to 11Ú16 miles. His last win came in last OctoberÕs Spend a Buck Handicap (gr. III) over CalderÕs main track. The ultra-consistent 5-year-old has been on the board in 17 of 27 starts for Philip Gleaves. Mambo Meister, previously owned by his breeder James Cavanaugh and Chris Pallas, was sold privately to Quantum Racing Team #1 in July 2008.
A Kentucky-bred son of King Cugat, Mambo Meister is out of the Desert Secret mare BleuÕslittlesecret, who placed in one start at 2. Her first foal is the stakes-placed winner Captain Canaveral (by Cape Canaveral). BleuÕslittlesecret had a busy year in 2005, being purchased for $5,200 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky winter mixed sale in February by Cavanaugh before producing Mambo Meister in March. Cavanaugh then resold BleuÕslittlesecret that fall to Chilean interests, barren to the cover of Buddha, for a profitable $38,000 at the Ocala BreedersÕ Sales Co.Õs fall mixed sale. BleuÕslittlesecretÕs most recent foal of record, Secreto Del Tigre, by The Mighty Tiger, was foaled in Chile in 2007. None of BleuÕslittlesecretÕs foals have been sold at public auction.
King Cugat is the sire of 13 stakes winners, including additional 2010 added-money winner Hold It Harvey (NZ-III). The son of Kingmambo stands at Questroyal at Dutchess Views Farm in New York for $3,500.ÑK.R.
