Determined not to be outdone by his younger brother, SlewÕs Tizzy set a track record on his way to capturing the $108,200 Native Diver Handicap (gr. III) Dec. 6 at Hollywood Park. Just nine days earlier, 3-year-old SlewÕs Tiznow set a track record for 11Ú16 miles on his way to taking the listed War Chant Stakes over the same Hollywood Park oval.

Sent off at 7-1, SlewÕs Tizzy split rivals in midstretch to draw off to win by a comfortable 11Ú2 lengths under jockey Joel Rosario. Final time for the nine furlongs was 1:46.78, breaking the previous mark of 1:46.80. Favorite Past the Point held on for second, a neck in front of Ball Four.

The 4-year-old son of Tiznow picked up his first stakes victory since taking the Lone Star Derby (gr. III) in May 2007. SlewÕs Tizzy has now captured five of 19 lifetime starts, for earnings of $619,619.

Like his full brother, SlewÕs Tizzy races as a homebred for Joseph LaCombe. Starting his career in one start for trainer Tom Albertrani, then being moved to Greg Fox, SlewÕs Tizzy now hails from the barn of Doug OÕNeill.

ÒThe dream goal is the Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I, $1-million, March 7),Ó OÕNeill said after the race. ÒWeÕll figure out how he comes out of this and the proper way to get there.Ó

LaCombe also is represented this year by additional graded stakes winners Azul Leon and TrickÕs Pic. Like the Native Diver winner, both horses are homebreds, and are conditioned by OÕNeill. LaCombeÕs earlier stakes winners include 1997 Horse of the Year and champion 2-year-old male, Favorite Trick.

Hepatica, dam of SlewÕs Tizzy, is boarded at Noel MurphyÕs Castle Park Farm near Georgetown, Ky. The 12-year-old daughter of Slewpy produced a Stormy Atlantic colt this year, and is in foal to Tiznow for 2009.

Tiznow has sired 17 stakes winners. Among his 13 added-money winners this year are Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner DaÕ Tara, Travers Stakes (gr. I) winner Colonel John, Well Armed (gr. I), and Tough TizÕs Sis (gr. I). Tiznow, the third leading sire in North Amercia this year, stands at Bill Casner and Kenny TrouttÕs WinStar Farm near Versailles, Ky. His 2009 fee has been set at $75,000.ÑM.J.S.
