Misremembered is getting hard to forget the way heÕs been winning stakes. His victory in the March 6 Santa Anita Handicap (gr. I) was his third stakes win since last July. Misremembered won the Swaps Stakes (gr. II) at Hollywood Park that month and then took the Indiana Derby (gr. II) at Hoosier Park in October in track-record time. Misremembered, by Candy Ride, ended a three-race losing streak with his Santa Anita Handicap score. He got beat a neck in the Clark Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs in November and then lost the Malibu Stakes (gr. I) in December by 21Ú2 lengths and the Strub Stakes (gr. II) by 11Ú4 lengths in February. Bob Baffert is the breeder and the trainer of Misremembered, who races for BaffertÕs wife, Jill, and longtime friend George Jacobs. Misremembered is the second Big ÕCap winner trained by Baffert, who was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame last August. Baffert trained his other Big ÕCap winner, General Challenge, for John and Betty MabeeÕs Golden Eagle Farm. Baffert bought MisrememberedÕs dam, Beyond Perfection, for $7,000 at the 2005 Keeneland January horses of all ages sale. Purchased in the name of Bode Moss, Beyond Perfection was consigned by Hill ÔnÕ Dale Sales Agency, agent for the estate of John Franks. Beyond Perfection was one of CaliforniaÕs leading 2-year-olds of 1990. The daughter of Quack won the Del Mar Debutante (gr. II) and Barretts Debutante Stakes and placed in the Oak Leaf (gr. II) and Sorrento (gr. III) Stakes. Candy Ride, who advanced to fourth on the leading sireÕs list when MisrememberedÕs earnings of $450,000 from the Big ÕCap were added to his total, has sired 10 stakes winners, including 2010 grade II winner SidneyÕs Candy. Candy Ride stands for $25,000 at William S. FarishÕs LaneÕs End Farm near Versailles, Ky.ÑD.S. |
