Trainer Larry Jones, who has experienced a series of extreme highs and lows this year, was treated to a stellar day Aug. 16 when he scored in two graded stakes with a couple of his most talented barn members.

Though the highlight of the day came when his Kentucky Oaks (gr. I)-winning filly Proud Spell added another grade I victory to her resume in the Alabama Stakes at Saratoga, JonesÕ 4-year-old colt Honest Man was also sincere in winning the Philip H. Iselin Stakes (gr. III) at Monmouth Park.

Besting Grasshopper in decisive fashion by 23Ú4 lengths, the son of UnbridledÕs Song added his first black-type score to an already impressive record of 6-1-1 from 10 starts.

Owned by the partnership of Bill Casner and Kenny TrouttÕs WinStar Farm and Rick PorterÕs Fox Hill Farm, Honest Man has now earned $360,800. He came into the Iselin off a third-place effort July 5 in the Salvator Mile Handicap (gr. III), also at Monmouth.

Honest ManÕs connections had a lot of faith in his potential when they bought him for $700,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September yearling sale. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent, Tim Kegel signed the ticket as agent.

Bred by Racehorse Management, a Midway, Ky.-based division of WinStar, Honest Man is out of the grade I Known Fact mare Oath, who is a half-sister to last yearÕs champion 2-year-old male War Pass (by Cherokee Run), winner of the 2007 Bessemer Trust BreedersÕ Cup Juvenile and Champagne Stakes (both gr. I).

Oath, who was raced by her breeders, Cherry Valley Farm, won the 1996 Spinaway Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga during her short, five-start career.

Oath, who was purchased for $2.7 million as a broodmare prospect in 1998, was most recently bought for $280,000 by WinStar at the 2003 Keeneland November mixed sale. Consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, agent, she was carrying Honest Man, who is her first winner. Oath, who has a yearling Tiznow colt, was barren to Unbridled Energy this year and is in foal to Sharp Humor.

UnbridledÕs Song is the sire of 70 stakes winners. Among his 12 added-money winners of 2008 are graded winners Eight Belles (gr. II), Thorn Song (gr. IIT), First Defence (gr. IIIT), and Noonmark (gr. III). UnbridledÕs Song stands at the Taylor familyÕs Taylor Made Farm near Nicholasville, Ky. His 2008 stud fee was $150,000.ÑE.M.
