The dam of Just as Well, the Nureyev mare No Matter What, was bred in Kentucky by Arthur Hancock III and Stonerside Stable and won the 2000 Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT). The year after producing Just as Well, she foaled a filly by Thunder Gulch, named Winter View, who this year won the Grey Goose Bewitch Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Keeneland and All Along Stakes (gr. After producing a full brother to Just as Well, in 2006 No Matter What had a filly by Dynaformer. Named Rainbow View, she was the champion juvenile filly in England last year after winning the Meon Valley Stud FilliesÕ Mile (Eng-I), Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield May Hill Stakes (Eng-II), and Skybet.com Sweet Solera Stakes (Eng-III).
Both Winter View and Rainbow View are raced by Augustin.
Twelve-year-old No Matter What was not bred in 2006, but the mare has a yearling colt by Smart Strike and this year foaled a filly by Dynaformer. Boarded at HancockÕs Stone Farm near Paris, Ky., she is back in foal to Dynaformer.
Strawbridge acquired No Matter What as a yearling at the 1998 Keeneland July sale. Consigned by Stone Farm, agent, she was purchased for Strawbridge by Headley BellÕs Nicoma Bloodstock for $425,000.
The second dam of Just as Well is the Lord At War mare Words of War, who was a hard-knocking mare, making 44 starts and winning five stakes. In addition to No Matter What, her first foal, Words of War is the dam of multiple graded stakes winner E Dubai. Words of War was barren this year to the cover of Bernardini.
Just as Well is one of 122 stakes winners sired by A.P. Indy, who stands at LaneÕs End Farm near Midway, Ky. A.P.
