Leroidesanimaux has made a seamless transition from racing in Brazil to racing in the United States. The latest evidence of that fact is the colt’s two-length win over Designed for Luck in the May 1 Inglewood Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Hollywood Park in course record time. Bobby Frankel trains the son of Candy Stripes for Goncalo and Regina Borges Torrealba’s T N T Stud.

The Torrealbas live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Goncalo is an investment banker and shipbuilder. In their name and in the name T N T Stud, the couple have raced North American stakes winners Dubai Dust, Cara Rafaela, First American, and Cagney.

Leroidesanimaux started his racing career in Brazil for T N T Stud. He did not place in his first start, then broke his maiden by more than 11 lengths in May of 2003. In his last start in Brazil Leroidesanimaux finished second in the Grande Premio Associacao Brasileira de Criadores e Proprietarios do Cavalo de Corrdia (Brz-I), in June of last year.

Haras Bage Do Sul bred Leroidesanimaux in Brazil. He is the third stakes winner from his dam, Dissemble, who was bred by Juddmonte Farms in England. The mare’s first six foals, including group I winner Uapybo and group III winner Disport, were bred in Brazil. The mare is now in the United States and foaled a War Chant filly in Kentucky this spring for Indian Creek Farm and Stonerside Stable.

In addition to Leroidesanimaux, another foal from Dissemble is now in the United States. Zaragoza Girl, a 5-year-old mare by Trempolino, was imported in 2003. Her last race was one year ago in Brazil for Haras Santa Maria de Araras.

Candy Stripes is the sire of Leroidesanimaux and 47 other stakes winners, including five other added-money winners this year: Lots of Hope (Brz-I), Lundy’s Liability (UAE-II), Outswinger (Tri-II), Immortal Hour (Brz-III), and Meine Isle (in Japan). Candy Stripes has stood in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres and is currently based at Haras Carampangue in Argentina. Lots of Hope is a homebred racing in Brazil for T N T Stud.—K.I.G.
