Brazilian-bred Leroidesanimaux is sweeping the California coast like a whirlwind. After back-to-back scores in the Morvich Handicap (gr. IIIT) Oct. 30 at Santa Anita and the Inglewood Handicap (gr. IIIT) May 1 at Hollywood Park, the son of Candy Stripes added ‘grade I winner’ to his resume Nov. 27 with a game half-length win in the $400,000 Citation Handicap (gr. IT) on the Hollywood turf.

Transferred to the United States for the 2004 campaign, the 4-year-old Bobby Frankel-trainee has now won five straight from six starts on the Western circuit since posting a willing fourth-place finish in his U.S. debut in January.

His score in the Inglewood was run in 1:38.45, course-record time for the 11/16miles. In both of his grade III wins he earned Beyer Speed Figures of 111, equaling the figure of Better Talk Now in the John Deere Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT) at Lone Star Park Oct. 30. Only four other turf performances this year, two of them by Kitten’s Joy, eclipse this number.

The colt races for Goncalo and Regina Borges Torrealba’s T N T Stud. The couple lives in Rio de Janeiro where Goncalo Torrealba works in both the banking and shipbuilding trades.

In addition to Leroidesanimaux, T N T has raced 2004 U.S. stakes winners Lundy’s Liability—in partnership with Mrs. M. Slack—, victorious in the Goodwood Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. II) in his stateside debut at Santa Anita; Lovely Rafaela, winner of the Honeymoon Breeders’ Cup Handicap (gr. IIT) at Hollywood in June; and Melhor Ainda, winner of the Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont in October.

Leroidesanimaux was bred in the Southern Hemisphere by Haras Bage Do Sul. He was produced from the unraced Ahonoora mare Dissemble, dam of two additional stakes winners in Brazil: group I winner Uapybo, by Blush Rambler; and group III winner Disport, by the Irish-bred stallion Blue Stag.

Candy Stripes, sire of Leroidesanimaux and 51 other known stakes winners, is the sire of Lundy’s Liability as well as nine additional 2004 added-money victors, eight of whom are group winners. Candy Stripes has stood in both North and South America and is currently based at Haras Carampangue in Argentina.—P.S.
