Team Valor Stables’ Onthedeanslist earned high honors in the Colonel E.R. Bradley Handicap at Louisiana Downs Dec. 18, finishing three-quarters of a length ahead of heavily favored Fort Prado for the 11/16-mile turf score. Trainer Ralph Nicks brought in the lightly raced, 6-year-old son of Honor Grades off a close second in an optional claiming contest at his Churchill base.
Onthedeanslist also scored for the connections earlier this season in the Tri-State Handicap at Ellis Park.
The horse was bred in Kentucky by the partnership of Palisair Place and Hedgewood Farm. Palisair Place also bred multiple stakes winners Direct Hit and La Feminn, though Onthedeanslist marks the outfit’s first added-money win with Hedgewood, whose most successful runner bred solely is 1993 Arlington Classic (gr. II) winner Boundlessly.
Hedgewood Farm, agent, consigned Onthedeanslist to the 2000 Keeneland September yearling sale where Donna Wormser went to $37,000 for the purchase.
Wormser placed Onthedeanslist in the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s 2001 February sale of 2-year-olds in training where he failed to reach his reserve at $35,000. Wormser sold the horse privately to Emmanuel Tzortzakis, who raced him in his first start—a maiden/special weight win at Meadowlands—before Team Valor Stables bought him privately after he established a track record of 1:02.44 for 51/2 furlongs in that effort.
Team Valor, a partnership syndicate headed by Barry Irwin, also sent out Saratoga’s Yaddo Handicap winner Kate Winslet as a sole owner this year, as well as a number of other stakes winners in various partnerships, including grade III winner Added Edge, whom it races with Robert Wilson.
Onthedeanslist is out of the winning, Spend a Buck mare Kylie’s Pride. Kylie’s Pride marked a successful pinhook for Becky Thomas and Jim Kintz, who bought her for $13,000 at the 1991 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale.
Thomas’ Sequel Bloodstock, agent, consigned Kylie’s Pride to the 1992 Barretts March 2-year-olds in training sale where owner/breeder B. Wayne Hughes went to $220,000 for the purchase.
Hughes raced Kylie’s Pride in four of her five races before selling her to Glencrest Farm. In addition to Onthedeanslist, she also produced 15-time-winning gelding Pockets, by Afternoon Deelites.
Her last foal, the 2001 Siphon filly Kylie, has placed this year.
Honor Grades sired 33 stakes winners and is represented by five other added-money winners in 2006, including recent Clark Handicap (gr. II) winner Magna Graduate. The son of Danzig stood at Darby Dan Farm and also shuttled to New Zealand. He was found dead in his paddock in 2002.—P.V.S.
