As a handicapper, there are three fine reasons to like 4-year-old filly India in the $300,000 Molly Pitcher Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) Aug. 25 at Monmouth Park: She is guided by the nation's top trainer, Todd Pletcher; aboard will be Joe Bravo, the perennial leader at Monmouth; and India seems to relish the Monmouth dirt, having gone 2-for-2 in New Jersey, including a resounding 4 1/2-length victory in the Miss Liberty Stakes July 6.
Thursday, August 23, 2007The Bobby Frankel-trained Karen's Caper will be a short price in the $150,000 Eatontown Stakes (gr. IIIT) for fillies and mares on the turf Saturday, Monmouth Park's first graded stakes race of the season.
Thursday, June 14, 2007Hobeau Farm's homebred Miss Shop shot through a gap along the inside coming off the far turn and turned the $200,000 Rampart Handicap (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park into a stroll while spoiling the return of 2006 Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) winner Round Pond on Sunday.
Sunday, March 11, 2007The 2006 Emirates Airline Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) winner Round Pond makes her return to competition in Sunday's $200,000 Rampart Handicap (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park. She faces just five rival fillies and mares in the 1 1/8-mile test.
Friday, March 09, 2007Brunilda brings back-to-back stakes wins into Friday night's $150,000 Violet Stakes (gr. IIIT) at the Meadowlands. A total of 10 fillies and mares were entered in the 30th edition of the Violet, a 1 1/16-mile grass test.
Wednesday, October 18, 2006Stonerside Stable's Karen's Caper has a slight edge in Saturday's $150,000 Noble Damsel Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIIT) for fillies and mares going one mile on the Belmont Park turf.
Thursday, September 21, 2006Cobra Farm's Brunilda, who won the Politely Stakes on the turf last month, became a double Monmouth stakes winner Saturday when she came rolling through the stretch to capture the $150,000 Eatontown Stakes by three-quarters of a length.
Saturday, August 26, 2006John Bowers Jr.'s New Jersey homebred Smart N Classy, winless in five starts this season for trainer John Tammaro III, seeks a repeat of her victory last year in the $150,000 Eatontown Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Monmouth Park Saturday.
Thursday, August 24, 2006The multiple graded stakes winner Ready's Gal, forwardly placed in Sunday's $150,000 Taylor Made Matchmaker (gr. IIIT), took the lead at the head of the stretch and held off the late challenge of Prop Me Up to win by a half-length on the Monmouth Park grass.
