Notional Pulls Salvator Mile Upset

Notional Pulls Salvator Mile Upset

Dismissed at odds of 7-1 in a field of six, Notional lagged behind in the early stages, made his presence known at the quarter-pole, and took over at the top of the lane en route to a 2 1/4-length victory in the $300,000 Salvator Mile Handicap (gr. III) July 5 at Monmouth Park. The race was the first North American Breeders' Cup Challenge event of the season.

Cheroot Cuts Way to Daytona Upset

Charlotte M. Wrather's Cheroot, a 28-1 outsider, squeezed through a narrow opening in the final stages to register a nose victory over Moth Ball in Santa Anita's $98,650 Daytona Handicap on the hillside turf course Feb. 17. Notional, sidelined since last March's second-place finish in the Florida Derby (gr. I), finished third in his comeback effort.

'Daddy Just Dandy in Florida Derby

Favored Scat Daddy put away his rival Stormello soon after they reached the stretch and finished strongly to hold off the grinding Notional, capturing the $1 million Florida Derby (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park in an impressive effort Saturday.

Kentucky Derby Trail: Make Room For Daddy

Well, we've got our first big horse heading to Churchill Downs following Scat Daddy's victory in the Florida Derby (gr. I), and judging from the other cards trainer Todd Pletcher is holding, he's going to have a full house come May 5. But who knows if runner-up Notional will be the first of four aces held by Doug O'Neill.

Scat Daddy Heads Florida Derby Field

Post positions have been drawn for the next Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) stepping stone race, the March 31 Florida Derby (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park. Grade I winner Scat Daddy currently heads the field at morning line odds of 5-2.

Kentucky Derby Trail: Spun Gun Firing Bullets Again

There is no escaping the fact that Hard Spun proved he is a brilliant, classy horse with his bounce back performance in the Lane's End Stakes (gr. II), but there is a question that pops up, that will be echoed after the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I): how legitimate was this race, or any race for that matter, run over a synthetic surface?

All Eyes on Belgravia in Hollywood Prevue

Belgravia, a $2 million juvenile purchase earlier this year by Michael Tabor, John Magnier and Zayat Stables, tries graded stakes company in just his second start, Saturday's $100,000 Hollywood Prevue (gr. III) at Hollywood Park.
