New York: Either love it or hate it. There is no doubt what side of the fence High Finance falls on. The 4-year-old colt has started five times in the Empire State, and won four races. In nine other career tries, the Kentucky-bred has won just once. Go figure.

Friday, May 19, 2006Trying to analyze this year's Preakness Stakes (gr. I) based on observations and training is not easy when you basically see only one horse train. With seven of the nine horses entered still not even on the grounds as of this writing, there is an odd precedent being set this year.
Friday, May 19, 2006Barbaro, winner of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), hadn't arrived at the Pimlico grounds as of Friday morning. But he was there in the minds of other trainers with horses in Saturday's Preakness Stakes (gr. I).

Thursday, April 20, 2006This year's road to the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) has only a few more doors left to pass through. But the scene so far at each one has resembled a slapstick comedy routine where everyone tries to go through a door at the same time, and no one gets through.
