Hunting, Gottcha Gold Pursue Skip Away

Stuart Janney's homebred Hunting has not raced since a third-place finish behind Evening Attire in the Dec. 8 Queens County Handicap (gr. III), but the 5-year-old son of Coronado's Quest could return to winning form in the $150,000 Skip Away Handicap (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park. He'll tackle Gottcha Gold, Dr. Pleasure, Better Than Bonds, and others in the March 15 event.

Bright One Hopes to Continue Roll in Indiana Derby

West Virginia Derby (gr. III) winner Bright One has been tabbed the 5-2 morning-line favorite for Saturday night's grade II, $500,000 Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park. The track's signature Thoroughbred event, for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles, has attracted a full field of 12.

Bernardini Bounds Away in Travers

Very few thought any of his five rivals had much of a shot at beating Bernardini at equal weights in Saturday's 137th Travers (gr. I) at Saratoga Race Course. But this appeared so effortless that jockey Javier Castellano was clapping the winner on the neck -- with a sixteenth of a mile to go!

Ward On Travers Fence With Strong Contender

Despite putting in a strong five-furlong workout over the Belmont Park training track Saturday, John Oxley's Strong Contender is still questionable for the upcoming Travers, according to Donna Ward, the wife and assistant trainer for John Ward.

Bernardini Has Easy Breeze for Travers

Darley Stable's Bernardini, runaway winner of the Preakness (gr. I) and Jim Dandy (gr. II), breezed an easy five furlongs in 1:03 2/5 at Saratoga Friday in preparation for the $1-million Travers Stakes (gr. I) Aug. 26.

Top 2-Year-Olds Draw Focus at Belmont

The Todd-Pletcher-trained Unobstructed View is part of an inexperienced Astarita (gr. III) field and the blue-blooded Dr. Pleasure headlines the Cowdin in a pair of 6 1/2-furlong juvenile stakes at Belmont Park Sunday.
