Iotapa is the one to beat in the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (gr. I) at Del Mar Aug. 2 following her devastating romp in the Vanity Handicap (gr. I) in June.
Unable to overcome a poor break as the favorite in December's Bayakoa Stakes (gr. II), Fiftyshadesofhay is out to turn the tables on the runaway winner of that race, Broken Sword, in the La Canada Stakes (gr. II) Jan. 19.
Broken Sword, taking full advantage of big trouble for even-money favorite Fiftyshadesofhay on the first turn, led at every call to upset the $150,000 Bayakoa Handicap (gr. II) Dec. 7 on the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park.
Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer will have a pair of representatives -- Broken Sword and Curvy Cat -- as he seeks his third Bayakoa Stakes (gr. II) win in four years.
