Friday morning was not a good time at the barn of Kenny McPeek. He has been forced to scratch two horses from stakes races at Churchill Downs today--Take Charge Lady and White Cat.
Repent, a four-time graded stakes winner who finished second in the Illinois Derby (gr. II), is on target for the $1 million Travers Stakes (gr. I) on Aug. 24.
No trainer or jockey has ever won back-to-back renewals of the Arlington Million (gr. I), but German conditioner Andreas Wohler and Austrian jockey Andreas Suborics could change that shortly.
Rebelline earned her third straight victory while turning the tables on the 1-2 finishers in her most recent defeat, winning Sunday's Tattersalls Gold Cup (Ire-I) by two lengths over Bach at The Curragh. Nayef, winner of last year's Dubai Champion Stakes (Eng-I) in which Rebelline finished eighth, came home 2 1/2 lengths farther back in third, with Champion Stakes runner-up Tobougg fifth of eight runners.
Rebelline, who upset Kentucky Derby contender Johannesburg in her last outing, is one of four distaffers entered in the first group I race of the season in France, Sunday's Prix Ganay at Longchamp.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club has announced that 40 horses from nine different countries have made the final cut for the four group races that will be contested at Sha Tin Racecourse on Dec. 16. Included among the top horses scheduled to compete in the Hong Kong International races are this year's Breeders' Cup Mile winner Val Royal as well as three winners of International races last year who are back to defend their titles.
