With sponsorship from Kendall Hansen and Intervention Pain Specialists of Crestview Hills, Ky., Turfway Park has added the Hansen Starter Handicap to its lineup on Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati Spiral Stakes (gr. III) day.
Hansen, the 2011 champion juvenile male and Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner, was represented by his first reported foal when a colt was born at Jason and Ashley Schappert's Leading Edge Farm near Jan. 28.
Hansen, the 2-year-old champion of 2011 and winner of that year's Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I), has been sold to South Korea, former owner Kendall Hansen confirmed Oct. 8.
Trainer Mike Maker was represented by his 1,000th career winner March 16 when Magical Season won the third race at Fair Grounds.

There is "less than a 10% chance" Hansen, the 2011 champion 2-year-old male who was withdrawn from the Travers Stakes (gr. I) due to a tendon injury, could ever return to competition.
Last year's juvenile champion Hansen has been ruled out of consideration for the Aug. 25 Travers Stakes (gr. I) after sustaining a tendon injury and "likely won't race again" according to Dr. Kendall Hansen.
Hansen, the juvenile champion of 2011, worked five furlongs in 1:02 4/5 the morning of Aug. 18 in preparation for a start in the Travers Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga, where Turbulent Descent and It's Tricky also worked.
Turfway Park has announced the elimination of all stakes, including Kentucky Cup Day of Champions, from the schedule for its 16-day fall meet that begins Sept. 6 and concludes Sept. 30.
