The 5-year-old Flower Alley mare My Wandy's Girl who began her career in Puerto Rico, aced her season debut at the Maryland oval, digging in deep under jockey Rajiv Maragh to wear down pacesetter La Verdad while holding off favored Centrique to win the Grade II Barbara Fitchie at Laurel Park.

Though relatively early on the Derby trail, it's unlikely there will be another two-way duel as good as the one in the $415,000 Grade II Besilu Stables Fountain of Youth Stakes, won by Wildcat Red over General a Rod at Gulfstream Park. The two colts fought all the way on the front end through fast fractions and settled matters down the long Gulfstream Park stretch.
