Skywalker upset champions Precisionist and Turkoman to win the third running of the Breeders' Cup Classic in 1986.
The 1987 Breeders' Cup was a battle of Kentucky Derby winners, with 1986 Derby winner Ferdinand prevailing by a nose over 1987 winner Alysheba.

Alysheba returned in 1988 to cap off his Horse of the Year triumph with a dramatic win in the Breeders' Cup Classic, as darkness fell on Churchill Downs.
Eddie Delahoussaye never even had to cock his stick to get A. P. Indy home in front in the 1992 Breeders' Cup Classic. A. P. Indy was named Horse of the Year for 1992, and has become one of the best sires of his generation.

Cigar was back in 1996, but it was Alphabet Soup who stole the headlines, taking the Classic by a nose over Preakness winner Louis Quatorze. Cigar was another head back in third.
Pleasantly Perfect was winner number 4 on the day for Richard Mandella. Pleasantly Perfect came from off the pace and wore down favorite Medaglia d'Oro, who finished second for the second straight year.
