Despite a body slam from Broken Engagement at the head of the lane, Twisted Tom turned that rival away and dug in to win the $150,000 New York Derby July 22 at Finger Lakes.

In his first start since a well-beaten sixth in the Belmont Stakes (G1), New York-bred Twisted Tom will pick up some class relief when he faces an expected six other state-breds in the $150,000 New York Derby July 22 at Finger Lakes.
With an inside trip just off favored Irish War Cry, Bridlewood Farm, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, and Robert LaPenta's Tapwrit angled out late in the final turn under jockey Jose Ortiz and kicked well clear of the rest in the 1 1/2-mile classic.
Here we are at the end of the road--the often unpredictable Belmont Stakes, without the Kentucky Derby or Preakness winner, without the favorite Classic Empire, and with a cloud of uncertainty hanging over the head of the Japanese invader Epicharis.
Unbeaten on dirt since he was transferred to the barn of Eclipse Award winner Chad Brown, Twisted Tom has a chance to become the poster child for outside-the-box thinking in the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1).

Let's start off by saying what has happened in the past often has no bearing on what is going to happen in the future. In Thoroughbred racing, they call them past performances for a reason.
Cobra Farm's Federico Tesio Stakes winner Twisted Tom will run in the $1.5 million Belmont Stakes presented by NYRA Bets (G1), said trainer Chad Brown, following his five-furlong breeze May 28 at Belmont Park.
Cobra Farm's Twisted Tom pulled away in the stretch to win the $125,000 Federico Tesio Stakes by 2 1/4 lengths. Although the race is a "Win and You're In" for the Preakness Stakes (G1) the gelding is not Triple Crown nominated.
Todd Pletcher could find himself with another contender on the Triple Crown trail when he sends out late bloomer Action Everyday in the $125,000 Federico Tesio April 22 at Laurel Park.
With an impressive late surge, Cobra Farm's Twisted Tom nabbed odds-on favorite O Dionysus at the wire in the $100,000 Private Terms Stakes at Laurel Park March 18.
A talented field of sophomore fillies will travel one mile in the Caesar's Wish Stakes, with Fair Grounds shipper Jenda's Agenda looking to remain perfect while 3-year-old males led by O Dionysus try two turns in the Private Terms Stakes.
Laurel Park presents the Maryland Juvenile Futurity and Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes Dec. 10. Both races, worth $100,000, are at seven furlongs for Maryland-bred or Maryland-sired runners.
