Morton Fink's homebred Wise Dan, two-time Horse of the Year, has been retired after trainer Charles LoPresti noticed some filling in a tendon the morning of Sept. 7.
The 8-year-old Wiseman's Ferry gelding went five furlongs in 1:00 flat Sept. 1 on trainer Charlie LoPresti's watch, and galloped out six furlongs in 1:12 in final serious move for the Sept. 13 Ricoh Woodbine Mile (Can-IT).

Two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan wasted no time getting back to business after being cleared to resume full training June 30, as trainer Charlie LoPresti sent him out to his first breeze in more than eight months July 17.
Two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan has been cleared to resume full training, trainer Charlie LoPresti said June 30. His connections are hoping for a return to the races this fall.
Charlie LoPresti heard the news he's been waiting on for months now, as the doctors at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital cleared two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan for galloping May 26.
The 8-year-old son of Wiseman's Ferry was cleared April 24 for light on-track training by Dr. Larry Bramlage at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital near Lexington, and jogged at Keeneland the next day.
Class handicappers won't find much of a toehold going into this year's Maker's 46 Mile Stakes (gr. IT) on Friday, April 10 at Keeneland, as all seven starters are looking for their initial victory at the top level.

Two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan is progressing well since he returned to tack-walking, but the chestnut gelding will require 30 more days in his recovery from a non-displaced fracture before he can go to the track.
