This year's edition of the $400,000 Super Derby (gr. II) at Louisiana Downs Sept. 6 drew a competitive filed of 11, headed by the one-two finishers of the Ohio Derby and the first three finishers of the Prelude Stakes.
ThistleDown Racino announced Aug. 27 it will increase purses another 5%, starting with a special Labor Day race card Sept. 1.

Under ideal conditions at Churchill Downs Sunday morning, April 27, seven contenders for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and several Longines Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) candidates breezed.
If there was any concern about the plodding time turned in by Wildcat Red in his final serious move before the Kentucky Derby, it was not showing on trainer Jose Garoffalo, who seemed in good spirits after the Sunday breeze.
Something deserved by Garoffalo's family is the chance at watching a Derby run in person. But after decades spent in the industry in Venezuela, Jose Garoffalo Sr. will watch from home while his son chases history.
A few years ago Xavier Moreau was talking to his Ocala, Fla. area neighbor Wilson Winter when the retired businessman mentioned his interest in getting into Thoroughbred breeding.

Likely Kentucky Derby (gr. I) favorite California Chrome will try to become the first California-bred to win the Louisville classic since Decidedly in 1962, but six other Derby hopefuls were also foaled outside of Kentucky.
