Outcross Wonder American County

MAHUBAH'S CORNER, by Avalyn Hunter

Gibson County was a total outcross when mated to Young American, a mare inbred to In Reality and Rough'n Tumble. The result was the star runner American County, who won the Sunshine Millions Oaks on Jan. 26. She is the sixth foal and first stakes winner produced from Young American, a daughter of the late Florida-based sire Pentelicus.

One of them, More Happy, will headline a field of 10 in the 116th running of the $250,000 Spinaway Stakes (gr. I) Sept. 2 at Saratoga, the nation's first Grade I event of the year for 2-year-olds.

Sorrento Win Looks Routine for Tasha's Miracle

Team Valor, which privately purchased a 50% interest in Tasha's Miracle after the 2-year-old filly's smart maiden score at Hollywood Park, got an immediate return on its investment when the daughter of Harlan's Holiday overwhelmed the field in the $150,000 Sorrento Stakes (gr. III) at Del Mar Aug. 8.
