Ventana returned to his winning ways, as the 5-year-old finally did May 21 at Pimlico Race Course when he outdueled longshot Immortal Eyes to score the $100,000 Maryland Sprint Handicap (gr. III).
Ventana, the only previous graded stakes winner entered in the Maryland Sprint (gr. III), is seeking his first score outside California. The race, which attracted a field of nine, will be contested at six furlongs May 21.
The Leopard, a Storm Cat colt purchased for $2.5 million at the Fasig-Tipton Florida Select 2-year-olds in training sale earlier this year, scored in an impressive maiden special weight victory at Saratoga Aug. 11.
