Alterite, a 1 1/2-length winner of the Garden City Stakes (gr. IT) in her North American debut last month, heads a field of nine 3-year-old fillies entered for the $400,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (gr. IT).
Three of the most accomplished 2-year-olds on the grounds turned in major training moves at Churchill Downs Sunday Sept. 22 in preparation for what their connections hope will be a trip to the Breeders' Cup.
Discreet Marq, invading from New York for trainer Christophe Clement, shot to the lead coming into the stretch and proved best through the lane to register a mild upset Aug. 17 in the $300,000 Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT).
Second and third in the July 24 Lake George Stakes (gr. IIT) at Saratoga, Watsdachances and Tapicat will rematch Aug. 18 in the $200,000 Woodford Reserve Lake Placid (gr. IIT).
Wishing Gate slammed the door on eight rivals last month on opening weekend over the Del Mar turf, but it doesn't figure to be as easy when she faces a full field in the $300,000 Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT) Aug. 17.

One could attribute the success of Kitten's Joy as a sire to the many savvy breeders who stepped out of their comfort zone to use a turf stayer, but that would be wrong.
A strong field of 3-year-old turf fillies will line up for the $200,000 Lake George July 24 at Saratoga, with Watsdachances, Tapicat, and Kitten's Dumplings among those entered to run.
Making her first start on grass, favored Emollient staved off a determined Emotional Kitten in deep stretch to post a half-length victory in the $350,000 American Oaks (gr. IT) July 13 at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Bettors sent Sycamore Racing's 3-year-old Nellie Cashman off at odds of 19-1 in the $150,000 Virginia Oaks (gr. IIIT). But the plucky Mineshaft filly had other ideas July 13 at Colonial Downs.
After finishing second to Kitten's Dumplings in a pair of stakes races on the turf at Churchill Downs, Praia will ship to Colonial Downs in search of the first stakes win of her career.
Emollient, winner of the Ashland Stakes (gr. I) this spring, makes her turf debut against seven rival 3-year-old fillies in the $350,000 American Oaks (gr. IT) on closing weekend July 13 at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Odds-on choice Kitten's Dumplings took the overland route to victory for a confident Joel Rosario, winning the Regret Stakes (gr. IIIT) going away on Stephen Foster Handicap night June 15 at Churchill Downs.

Dance the Bristol continued her roll with a strong win in the $100,000 Skipat Stakes at Pimlico Race Course May 17, then I'm Mom's Favorite got up in the shadow of the wire in the $100,000 Ms. Preakness Pink Warrior.
