In the final start of her career, multiple graded stakes winner Upperline outfought Ciao Bella in the homestretch to prevail in the $125,000 Rood and Riddle Dowager Stakes Oct. 21 on the Keeneland turf.
Upperline will be returning to the course and 1 1/2-mile distance where she captured the Grey Goose Bewitch Stakes (gr. IIIT) in the spring.
While Ruthenia and Laughing are co-highweights in the $150,000 Athenia Stakes at Belmont Park, they do not figure to hook up until late in the 1 1/16-mile turf race for females because of their different running styles.
Flaxman Holdings' Aruna seeks back-to-back wins in the $500,000 Juddmonte Spinster (gr. I) at Keeneland Oct. 6, facing 12 rivals as she attempts to become just the fourth horse to accomplish the feat.
Trainer Shug McGaughey says Point of Entry, his Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational (gr. IT) winner Sept. 29, should be a prime contender for Horse of the Year if he can win the Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT).
Multiple graded stakes winner Zagora heads the $600,000 Flower Bowl Invitational (gr. IT) at Belmont Park Sept. 29, while European invaders I'm a Dreamer and Nahrain are poised to challenge.
Royal Delta and It's Tricky look to recover from an Aug. 26 Personal Ensign (gr. I) upset and eye year-end honors when they meet for a fifth time Sept. 29 in the $400,000 Beldame Invitational (gr. I) at Belmont Park.
