Midwest Thoroughbreds' homebred The Pizza Man will look to become the first horse to win the Arlington Million (gr. IT) back-to-back Aug. 13, but will have to pick up his recent form to do so.
Grade I winner The Pizza Man towers over his field in the Stars and Stripes, but only if he can regain his form of a year ago when he won the Arlington Million. He is winless in two starts this season.
Midwest Thoroughbreds' The Pizza Man, in preparation for his next start July 9, worked a half-mile July 2 at Arlington International Racecourse.
Nelson McMakin's Pleuven, a French-bred gelding who was a close second in the Opening Verse Stakes May 21 in his Churchill Downs debut, stepped up big time with a victory in the $200,000 Wise Dan Stakes (gr. IIT) at the Kentucky track June 18.
Should his performance at Churchill Downs on Saturday evening be a good one, trainer Roger Brueggemann would send the horse to Arlington once more for a defense of his Arlington Million (gr. IT) title.

Well-travelled The Pizza Man will make his way back to the West Coast for the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup (gr. IIT) Nov. 26 at Del Mar.
A minor lung infection will keep Midwest Thoroughbreds' homebred Arlington Million (gr. IT) winner stateside.
Rejuvenated from a six-month winter/spring Florida vacation, The Pizza Man has come back remarkably strong this season and is now on-track to face Europe's best runner in the Longines Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT).
