After trainer Chad Brown watched how Practical Joke breezed wearing blinkers April 28 at Churchill Downs, the Eclipse Award-winning trainer is leaning toward equipping the two-time grade 1 winner with a small cup pair for the Kentucky Derby.
Following a strong five-furlong work March 28 at Winding Oaks Farm near Ocala, Fla., the connections of Classic Empire set the Arksansas Derby (G1) as the next target for last year's champion juvenile male.
Yutaka Take, Japan's most famous jockey, even came in for the work aboard the UAE Derby (UAE-II) winner, but Lani refused to get into gear until after a quarter of what was supposed to be a five-eighths work.
