Prices tumbled at the the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky winter mixed sale Feb. 9 in Lexington, following the downward trends that have been seen at other recent auctions. The average price dropped 42.8% while the median price fell 28.6%. A much smaller sale catalog than in 2008 contributed to the 62.9% decline in the gross revenue.

The 2008 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky winter mixed auction posted an 18.9% gain in average price. The gross revenue rose 1.9% while the median price remained the same as in 2007. But this year's edition of the sale, scheduled for Feb. 9 in Lexington, isn't expected to perform as strongly.

Compared to last year's figures, the number sold and gross dropped by 27.8% and 21.5%, respectively. The average rose by 8.5%. A yearling colt by Devil's Bag sold to Bill Feeley of Roscoe, Mont., for $37,000 to top the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association's winter mixed sale on Sunday. Produced from the 10-year-old Greinton mare No Extra Charge, the chestnut colt is a half-brother to Melcapwalker (by Skywalker), winner of this year's Emerald Express Stakes at Emerald Downs. The consignor was Bella Bloodstock, who was acting on the behalf of Northwest Farms.
