E Dubai Earns First Graded Stakes Win in Dwyer

Godolphin's E Dubai avenged his second-place finish to Hero's Tribute in the Peter Pan Stakes (gr. II) with an impressive 5 3/4-length victory in Sunday's $150,000 Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park. The winning time marks the fastest running of the Dwyer since the race was switched to its present distance in 1994.

Windsor Castle Likely to Miss Derby

Windsor Castle, who came down with a high fever several weeks ago, finally seems to be coming back to himself and should be back under tack sometime this week. But trainer Frank Alexander said the colt lost some muscle tone and he does not anticipate a start before April, which would all but eliminate him from Derby consideration. "It'll be hard for him to make the big one," Alexander said.

Windsor Castle, purchased by a Dogwood Stable partnership after winning the grade II Remsen Stakes last year, has been dealt a setback that will cause him to miss the Feb. 17 Fountain of Youth Stakes. Dogwood president Cot Campbell said Windsor Castle developed a fever several days after a Jan. 6 workout. "It's nothing serious and he's normal now, but it's thrown a monkey wrench into (trainer) Frank Alexander's schedule for him," Campbell said.

Florida Derby Likely Next Star for Macho Uno, A P Valentine

After Saturday's seven-furlong Hutcheson Stakes, just one more stakes preview will remain on the Gulfstream Park schedule for the March 10 Florida Derby. Likely to await the $1 million Florida Derby (gr. I) are the major 3-year-olds in Florida – Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I) winner Macho Uno, and Champagne Stakes (gr. I) winner A P Valentine. Another pointing directly to the mile and an eighth Florida Derby is Buckle Down Ben, winner of the Laurel Futurity (gr. III) last season and second in the Holy Bull.

Windsor Castle Works Toward Fountain of Youth

Trainer Frank Alexander worked Remsen Stakes (gr. II) winner Windsor Castle on Saturday at Gulfstream in preparation for the $200,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II) over 1 1/16 miles here Feb. 17. With Robbie Davis in the saddle, Windsor Castle was timed in 1:13 4/5 for six furlongs (handily) and got the half-mile in :48 4/5.

Fistfite KO's Cowdin Rivals

Peter Callahan's Fistfite moved up to the lead on the turn and edged away in the stretch to win the $108,800 Cowdin Stakes (gr. III) by 2 1/4 lengths Sunday at Belmont Park. Under Richard Migliore, Fistfite completed the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.63 on a fast track.
