Waterford Stable's Summer Front will try to win the Miami Mile Handicap (gr. IIIT) for a second straight year when the 5-year-old son of War Front faces an expected 13 rivals in the April 19 race.
Favored at 6-5 for his first start since Nov. 29, Waterford Stable's Summer Front ran down pacesetter Tetradrachm in the final sixteenth to win the $200,000 Fort Lauderdale Stakes (gr. IIT) Jan. 11 at Gulfstream Park.
Waterford Stable's even money favorite Summer Front brought home a third grade III victory with his win in the 35th edition $100,000 Cliff Hanger Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Monmouth Park Aug. 25.
Summer Front used his usual come-from-behind tactics as he charged down the stretch on the outside and prevailed over front-runner El Commodore in the April 20 Miami Mile Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Calder Casino & Race Course.
Waterford Stable's Summer Front will run in the $100,000 Duluth Stakes at Saratoga July 22 rather than travel to Colonial Downs for the Virginia Derby (gr. IIT) a day earlier, according to trainer Christophe Clement.
Waterford Stable's Summer Front found room late and exploded in the final yards to defeat Howe Great in the $150,000 Hill Prince Stakes (gr. IIIT) for 3-year-olds at Belmont Park June 16.
With a big late burst, undefeated Summer Front concluded his 2-year-old campaign with an impressive 1 1/2-length victory over favored Finale in the $100,000 Dania Stakes on the Gulfstream Park turf Dec. 18.
Favored In Summation regained some of the sparkle he lost last season with a sharp one-length win in the $98,000 El Conejo Handicap (gr. III) at Santa Anita on New Year's Day.
Waterford Stable's In Summation again showed his affinity for synthetic surfaces with a game and blazing victory in the $150,000 Palos Verdes Handicap (gr. II) for 4-year-olds and up at Santa Anita Park Jan. 21.
Coming off a grade I triumph on Polytrack at Del Mar last month, it was no surprise that In Summation won the $150,000 Arlington Breeders' Cup Sprint Aug. 25 at Arlington Park as the 3-5 favorite. What was unexpected is that he had to share the victory with the pacesetter Piratesonthelake, who earned a dead heat.
In Summation, invading from New York for trainer Christophe Clement, nipped Greg's Gold by a thin nose in a heart-pounding finish to Sunday's $300,000 Bing Crosby Handicap (gr. I) at Del Mar.
