Joe Hirsch Turf Classic: Kitten's Joy in Lion's Den

Sophomore turf sensation Kitten's Joy gets the ultimate test Saturday, facing a tough group of seasoned older horses in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational (gr. IT) at Belmont Park. Leg two of the NTRA's National Pick 4, the Turf Classic will be shown live on ESPN and has an approximate post time of 5:12 p.m. EDT.

Last NTRA Pick 4 of the Year Offered Saturday

The NTRA National Pick 4 wager, offered in conjunction with the "NTRA Super Saturday" telecasts airing on ABC and ESPN, makes its fifth and final appearance of the year Saturday. Three grade I stakes from Belmont Park: the Jockey Club Gold Cup, the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational, and the Vosburgh Stakes; along with the Yellow Ribbon Stakes from Oak Tree at Santa Anita make up the wager.

B.C. Turf Hero Johar Among Nominees for Turf Classic

The Thoroughbred Corp's Johar, a dead-heat winner with High Chaparral in the Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT), and 3rd Turn Stable's defending winner Honor In War head a list of 98 older grass horses nominated to the 17th running of the $400,000-added Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (gr. I) at Churchill Downs.

Delta Form in Better Form for Turf Classic

Gary Barber and Team Valor Stable's Delta Form will arrive at Belmont Park Sept. 22 to run in the Turf Classic Invitational (gr. IT) on Sept. 29. The weight-for-age Turf Classic, at 1 1/2 miles on the turf will be televised live by NBC (4:30 p.m EDT).

Belmont Park Race Report: Say No More

Everyone knew what was coming. Frankel the Fox was honed in on another kill, and no one could stop it. When the weekend had ended, Frankel won the Turf Classic with Timboroa, had a third in the Flower Bowl with the fast-closing Starine, and another grade I victory the following day with Senure in the Clement Hirsch, giving him 11 for the year. The only horse who ran poorly was The Seven Seas, and that was because she entrapped her epiglottis in the Yellow Ribbon.

King Cugat Draws Post 5 for Turf Classic

Centennial Farm's King Cugat will go after his first grade I victory Saturday after drawing post 5 for the $750,000 Turf Classic Invitational at Belmont Park. The Turf Classic is part of "Champions on Turf" Day at Belmont that also includes the running of the Flower Bowl Invitational (gr. IT) for fillies and mares at 1 1/4 miles and the 6 1/2-furlong Gallant Bloom Handicap (gr. II), also for fillies and mares.

Samyn Sweeps Turf Classic and Flower Bowl

Age proved no impediment to 9-year-old gelding John's Call, who led all the way Saturday in the $750,000 Turf Classic Invitational (gr. IT) at Belmont Park. Jean-Luc Samyn was the winning rider in both of the day's premier turf events, taking both the Turf Classic and the co-featured Flower Bowl Handicap (gr. IT).
