Tom Ventura has been watching what's happening in the rest of the country, and he hopes the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company August yearling sale, which begins Monday, can follow the same trends that other regional markets have experienced.
Friday, August 16, 2002OBS executive Tom Ventura said he would be satisfied if the average for the March select sale of 2-year-olds in training is equal to or a little higher than last year's auction record.
Saturday, March 16, 2002A sale record was established for average price at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's select juvenile auction at Calder Race Course Tuesday. In addition, the median price increased dramatically from a year ago, rising to the second-highest level in the South Florida sale's history.
Tuesday, February 05, 2002Last year, for the first time, all sale companies that conduct major juvenile auctions in Florida, Kentucky, and California tested horses for drugs following pre-sale under tack shows. This year, two companies, Ocala Breeders' Sales (OBS) and Fasig-Tipton, are tightening their medication policies.
Wednesday, January 16, 2002Tests conducted on juveniles that participated in under-tack shows prior to the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s March select auction did not detect any performance enhancing-drugs, but therapeutic medications were found in blood samples from three horses whose consignors had not reported the treatments, said Tom Ventura, general manager and director of sales for OBS.
Monday, March 26, 2001The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company reported there were no positive results of random drug tests taken on horses that worked out Jan. 29 in preparation for Tuesday's 2-year-olds in training sale at Calder Race Course. OBSC took blood samples from 21 horses that took part in the first Under Tack Show. An additional 22 horses were tested randomly during Sunday's second Under Tack Show. "Everything went well," OBSC general manager and sales director Tom Ventura said of the testing.
