Embattled jockey Patrick Valenzuela received his California riding license and is expected to be back in the saddle for the first time since last July on Jan. 15. The California Horse Racing Board Friday cleared the way for jockey Pat Valenzuela to regain his riding license when it voted to adopt the ruling of an administrative law judge that overruled a board of stewards' suspension of the rider.
Jockey Pat Valenzuela, who has had a history of drug related problems during his career, today had his current suspension extended through the remainder of 2004 by the Santa Anita stewards.

Following a 90-minute hearing Feb. 14 that included expert testimony and a bitter exchange, Gulfstream Park's stewards reduced the suspension of jockey Eibar Coa from 30 days to 20, with an additional five days to be lopped off if he does not appeal. Coa's agent, Joe Ferrer, indicated Coa did not plan an appeal.
Trainer Michael Daggett and veterinarian William Isomoto were suspended for by Aqueduct's stewards Sunday.
In what is believed to be the first suspension in the country for a positive test for the drug benzylpiperazine, New England trainer Tammi Piermarini was suspended Tuesday until Jan. 10, 2002. The Suffolk Downs board of stewards also fined her $500 and took away first-place purse money won by Dixie Draw Oct. 6 at the Masschusetts track.

Trainer Nick Zito had his license suspended for 15 days and was fined $2,000 by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board Thursday for a positive test for the analgesic Lidocaine at Saratoga in August of 2000.
Bob Baffert's attorney said Wednesday he will go to Los Angeles Superior Court either Friday or Monday seeking a stay of the 60-day suspension handed down to the trainer by the California Horse Racing Board.
