Stonestreet Stable and Midnight Cry Stable's Curlin dazzled onlookers with a strong work at Churchill Downs June 2 as the reigning Horse of the Year tuned up for planned run in the $750,000-added Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) June 14.
Favored El Roblar, making just his second start following a layoff of 10 months for trainer Richard Mandella,held off all challengers to win the $109,500 Inglewood Handicap (gr. IIIT) on the Hollywood Park turf.
Horse of the Year Curlin will face five challengers when he makes his debut at Nad Al Sheba on Thursday, Feb. 28.
The current but clouded ownership of 2007 Horse of the Year Curlin remained unchanged following a hearing in a Kentucky state court Jan. 22, with a judge overruling a motion for foreclosure on the minority interest owned by jailed attorneys Shirley Cunningham Jr. and William Gallion.
An attorney representing Stonestreet Stables, the majority owner of leading Horse of the Year candidate Curlin, emphasized Jan. 8 that a foreclosure motion being considered in a Kentucky state court involves only the minority interest in the star colt.

Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables now has an 80% ownership interest in Curlin after completing a deal to acquire former partner George Bolton's percentage of the 2007 leading Horse of the Year candidate.

Trying Hollywood Park's Cushion Track for the first time, favored El Roblar gained the lead at the top of the stretch for jockey Victor Espinoza and rolled to a two-length win over grade I winner Siren Lure Saturday in the $109,700 Ack Ack Handicap (gr. III) at 7 1/2 furlongs.
Curlin, who suffered his first defeat in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), kept gaining down the stretch and got past Street Sense in the final strides to win the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) Saturday at Pimlico.
Undefeated Curlin made like Smarty Jones in winning Saturday's $1 million Arkansas Derby (gr. II) and heads into next month's Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) as the potential favorite following his record 10 1/2-length demolition job at Oaklawn Park.

Forest Music, making her first start for Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables and trainer Steve Asmussen, took early command of the Honorable Miss Handicap (gr. II) at Saratoga Friday afternoon and never let go, cruising to a two-length victory. The win marked a milestone for trainer Steve Asmussen's career: win number 3,000.
Del Mar racing fans will get their usual double dose of stakes action as the seaside track opens its 66th season Wednesday with two divisions of the Oceanside Stakes, the perennial opening-day feature for 3-year-olds going a mile on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course.
