Eclipse Award winner Steinlen died June 9 at John C. Harris' Harris Farms near Coalinga, Calif., after fracturing a rear leg in a paddock accident. Campaigned as a homebred by Daniel Wildenstein, Steinlen was voted champion grass male in 1989 following triumphs in the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT), Arlington Million (gr. IT), and Bernard Baruch Handicap (gr. IT).
