Sprinter Shine Again Stretches Out in Ruffian Handicap

Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens will flip-flop his two top fillies in this Saturday's two filly and mare stakes at Belmont Park. Jerkens will send the grade I-winning sprinter Shine Again in the 1 1/16-mile Ruffian Handicap and her younger half-sister Shiny Band, winner of the one-mile Shuvee Handicap, in the six-furlong Floral Park Handicap.

Shine Again to Ruffian and Shiny Band to Floral Park

Trainer Allen Jerkens is planning an all-out weekend attack on Belmont Park when he sends out half-siblings Shine Again and Shiny Band, as well as Puzzlement, in separate stakes events. Shine Again is pointed toward Saturday's $300,000 Ruffian Handicap (gr. I) and Shiny Band will contest Sunday's $100,000 Floral Park Handicap (gr. III). Puzzlement will start in Saturday's $150,000 Jerome Handicap (gr. II).

Queen Bee

Things were back to normal for the Edward P. "Ned" Evans stable on June 22. After pulling off the rare feat (for him) of winning two consecutive stakes with colts, Evans and trainer Mark Hennig returned to their filly factory and sent out the queen bee, Raging Fever, for another victory in a filly and mare stakes.

Five-time graded stakes winner Mystic Lady leads a field of six postward in the 1 1/16 mile, $200,000 Honey Bee Handicap at The Meadowlands Friday night. The Thunder Gulch filly annexed the Cotillion (gr. II) in her last start and the Jersey Derby (gr. III) earlier this year at Monmouth. Mystic Lady will carry Eibar Coa and 122 pounds for conditioner Mark Hennig.
