Lane's End Not Selling at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga

Lane's End Farm, a perennial leader at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sales, will not have a consignment at this year's sale held in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Aug. 10-12. Instead, the sales agency of the Woodford County farm will focus its yearling prospects to Keeneland's September yearling sale in Kentucky, to be held Sept. 13-25.

Fasig-Tipton's Kentucky, Saratoga Sale Dates Unchanged

Three days after rival Keeneland announced a one-year hiatus for its select yearling sale in July due to the effects of mare reproductive loss syndrome on the pool of early maturing foals of 2002, Fasig-Tipton Company said it was sticking to its traditional sale dates for Lexington in July and Saratoga Springs, N.Y., in August.

Editor's Note Colt Beats $4.2-Million Saratoga Sale Topper at Spa

Last year's Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale topper, a Seattle Slew colt named Distinction purchased for $4.2 million by Californian David Shimmon, was soundly beaten in his second career start, a six-furlong maiden special weight race for 2-year-olds at Saratoga on Thursday. The winner of the race was first-time starter Coach Knight, an Anthony Dutrow-trained son of Editor's Note who was a $75,000 purchase at an Ocala Breeders' Sales Company 2-year-old sale this March.
