Caressing, Golden Ballet Head Oaks Nominations

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Caressing, the Eclipse Award winner as the champion 2-year-old filly of 2000, and rising California-based star Golden Ballet head a roster of 167 fillies nominated to the 127th running of the $500,000 Kentucky Oaks. The total number of fillies nominated to the Oaks is highest since 1989, when 181 fillies were nominated, and the eighth largest total in the history of the race. An Oaks record 191 fillies were nominated in 1986 and 1987 and 158 were nominated last year.

As a Kentucky-born lover of Thoroughbred racing, Beau Greely counts his Kentucky Derby Day victory by Manndar in the Woodford Reserve Turf Classic (GI) as one of the special moments in his young career. But that victory could drop a notch on his personal highlight reel if he has the Breeders' Cup Day he is hoping for at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4.

Weekend Racing Mars Win Streaks

A weekend full of top quality Breeders' Cup-prep racing left blemishes on several records. Gold Mover and Perfect Sting, both undefeated in 2000 prior to Oct. 14, each recorded a loss on the unofficial Breeders' Cup preview weekend. However, Raging Fever remained undefeated after Saturday's Frizette (gr. I) victory over Out of Sync. Raging Fever could take her five wins into the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I).

Raging Fever Wins Frizette; Dancinginmydreams Vanned Off

Raging Fever sat just off the early pace and rallied to win the $500,000 Frizette Stakes (gr. I) for 2-year-old fillies Saturday at Belmont Park. Betting favorite Dancinginmydreams, who finished a fast-closing second to Raging Fever in the Matron Stakes (gr. I), was pulled up by jockey Pat Day when making a wide run out of the turn and was vanned off the track.
