Prominent California stallion Benchmark, sire of champion Points Offthebench and several other grade I winners, has been pensioned from stud duty due to fertility issues, Ballena Vista Farm announced April 21.
Points Offthebench was named California-bred Horse of the Year for 2013 at the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association's annual meeting and awards dinner Feb. 10 at the Claremont Hotel Club & Spa in Berkeley.
The first grade I winner for trainer Tim Yakteen is now his first Eclipse Award winner as Points Offthebench received the award as champion male sprinter.
In the male sprinter division, tragedy ended the spectacular season of Points Offthebench, Secret Circle made a memorable return to racing, and Sahara Sky delivered a stirring victory in the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I).

Points Offthebench made his first venture into stakes company a successful one, winning the $300,000 Bing Crosby Stakes (gr. I) over Goldencents in a terrific fight to the wire July 28 at Del Mar.
His foray into the 2013 Triple Crown season behind him, Goldencents gets back to work in the $300,000 Bing Crosby Stakes (gr. I), a six-furlong sprint at Del Mar in which he will face older horses for the first time.
