Patrice Wolfson, co-owner of Affirmed, the last Triple Crown winner, made an appearance at the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) draw June 8 at Belmont Park, recalling her great champion.
To clear her mind and focus on fond memories, Patrice Wolfson, who bred and raced 1978 Triple Crown winner Affirmed with her recently deceased husband, Louis, attended a Jan. 17 auction at Christie's in New York that sold more than 200 racing trophies won by her late mother and father.
More than 200 racing trophies of the late Ethel D. Jacobs, North America's leading owner for three years, and her husband, Hirsch Jacobs, a Hall of Fame trainer, are being auctioned at Christie's in New York Jan. 17, 2008.
Media and other guests were invited to a June 6 reception for the opening of a new, permanent Affirmed exhibition that includes the Triple Crown winner's trophy collection, artwork, halter, and jewelry worn by his owner.
Next spring, the International Museum of the Horse at the Kentucky Horse Park will unveil a new, permanent exhibition featuring Triple Crown winner, Affirmed. The exhibition is supported by a loan of Affirmed's racing trophies and memorabilia from his owners, Louis and Patrice Wolfson.
Flawlessly is the second Harbor View Farm homebred elected into the Hall of Fame, joining Affirmed, the last winner of the Triple Crown.
Affirmed, the last Triple Crown winner and the only stallion in history to win 14 Grade 1 races, will be memorialized at Darley at Jonabell with a sculpture by renowned equine artist Gwen Reardon.
