Veterinarian Tom Bowman has joined his son, Brooke Bowman, D.V.M., and veteran Maryland horseman Louis Merryman as a partner in the newly formed Heritage Stallions.
Castleton Lyons is welcoming visitors without appointment to inspect the Lexington farm's stallions Jan. 4-9 from noon to 3 p.m. each day, including the newest addition to its roster, Justin Phillip.
The event will introduce first-year stallion Boys At Tosconova, a grade I-winning juvenile, along with New York newcomers Courageous Cat and El Corredor.
Tony Cissell has rejoined WinStar Farm as director of stallion operations, the facility near Versailles, Ky. announced Jan. 5.
The farm is welcoming the return of Gio Ponti from stud duty in Australia.
Pope McLean's Crestwood Farm will host its stallion open house for breeders Jan. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. at the stallion barn in Lexington.
Lane's End will host an open house for breeders daily from Saturday, Jan. 5, through Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Doug Arnold's Buck Pond Farm will hold a stallion show and open house Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Northview Stallion Station near Chesapeake City, Md., will hold open houses Jan. 14 and 21, 2012. The farm's stallions will be available for inspection from 2-4 p.m. (EST) each day.
Tarry Bratton's Ghost Ridge Farms near Felton, Pa. will host an open house Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Multiple stakes winner Wallenda has arrived at Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement Facility based in Georgetown, KY. The 17-year-old horse is the 5th stallion bred in North America that has been returned to the United States from stud duty in Japan by the non-profit organization.
You had to see it to believe it. Smarty Jones' open-house gallop at Philadelphia Park Saturday morning drew between 8,500 and 10,000 fans, some of whom showed up as early as 5 a.m. Once the doors opened just before 8, it was a mad dash to secure choice spots along the rail.
Visit Saratoga racetrack for its annual open house on July 20. This year the day starts off with a 5K walk to benefit the Special Olympics, and includes events for all ages from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
