The 2016 Ohio Thoroughbred Race Fund will be worth $5.79 million, up 4.2% from last year under a proposal approved by the Ohio State Racing Commission Jan. 26.
Daniel J. Guttman of Bexley, Ohio, has been appointed by Gov. John Kasich to the Ohio Thoroughbred Race Fund advisory committee. Guttman, 43, will serve a three-year term.
The Ohio Thoroughbred Racing Fund, now fully supported by revenue from racetrack video lottery terminals, will almost double to more than $5 million in 2015.
Ohio's three Thoroughbred racetracks have applied for a combined 293 racing days for 2015. There would be no overlap between ThistleDown Racino and Mahoning Valley Race Course, which are located not that far apart.
Growth and new revenue for the Ohio Thoroughbred industry has led to projected increases in breeders' awards and an expanded state-bred stakes schedule for 2014.
Ohio breeding programs grew in 2013 and are expected to continue that trend in 2014, according to Ohio State Racing Commission statistics.

Requests by Beulah Park and River Downs to schedule their customary Thoroughbred meets for 2009 were officially granted Dec. 19 by the Ohio State Racing Commission.
