The Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. (OBS) will test the yearling market with quantity at a time when some buyers might be cutting back on their purchases because of America's struggling economy. The 2008 Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's June 2-year-olds in training sale saw the number of horses sold and the gross increase over last year's figures, while the average and median price fell off slightly during the two-day sale June 17-18 in Central Florida.

OBS Median Same, Average Drops

The Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. winter mixed sale, which ended its three-day run Jan. 18 in Central Florida, generated a median price of $5,500 that was the same as last year's comparable figure. In addition, the buy-back/no bid rate dropped from 43.9% in 2006 to 38.4%, indicating greater consignor satisfaction with the prices.
