Goal Doubled for New York Heroes Fund

Due to a flood of early, generous contributions, the NTRA, Breeders' Cup Limited, and the New York Racing Association announced Friday it was doubling its goal for the NTRA Charities -- New York Heroes Fund to $2 million. The Heroes Fund, set up by the organizations a week ago, will aid the families of New York firefighters, police officers, emergency services personnel, and other victims who perished in the terrorist attacks on New York Sept. 11.

Galileo confirmed his victories in the Epsom (Eng-I) and Irish (Ire-I) Derbies with an authoritative performance against open company in Saturday's 51st renewal of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes (Eng-I) at Ascot. Galileo, Golan Get Irish Up

Galileo and Golan, one-two finishers in the Epsom Derby (Eng-I), will square off Sunday in the Budweiser Irish Derby (Ire-I). Galileo, conditioned by Aidan O'Brien, has four wins from four starts after posting a 3 1/2-length victory in the Epsom Derby. He is being pointed toward Belmont Park and the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships Classic (gr.-I) in October. Galileo is a son of Sadler's Wells.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien, who recently swept both the Irish One Thousand (Ire-I) and Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I), completed another classic double at Epsom Saturday when Galileo gave him his first Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I) victory. Imagine Gives O'Brien Irish Guineas Sweep

On Saturday, Aidan O'Brien-trained runners filled the top three finishing positions in the Entenmann's Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I). 16-1 longshot Imagine completed the Irish Guineas double for the conditioner at the Curragh Sunday, winning the Entenmann's One Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) under jockey Seamus Heffernan. All told, O'Brien's runners took five of the top six finishing positions in the two races, with his Toroca coming home third in Sunday's race.
