Churchill Downs Inc. announced July 14 that Robert L. Evans will retire as executive chairman of the company and as a member of management effective Sept. 30.
Turfway Park will end its experiment with Saturday night racing effective Jan. 14, when it switches to a 1:10 p.m. first post.

After experimenting with night racing on Thursdays during the Oak Tree Racing Association meet, Hollywood Park announced Oct. 23 that it will return to the afternoon for its final Thursday card of the meet.
Oak Tree Racing Association received license approval Sept. 10 to move its 2010 meet to Hollywood Park.
Churchill will race Oct. 31, but it will ask the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission to switch first post time from 4:30 p.m. EDT to the customary 12:40 p.m.

A new night racing experience with specialty drinks, live music by The Wise Guys, and charbroiled oysters will take place at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans on three Friday nights.
Thoroughbred races have been held under the lights at Hawthorne Race Course in the late fall and winter as daylight diminishes, but for the first time, the Chicago-area track will offer night racing.
Based on a review of its experimental three night racing cards during the spring meet, Churchill Downs Inc. announced Sept. 28 it will install permanent lights at its flagship racetrack in Louisville.

Churchill Downs will ask the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission for permission to hold three night programs under temporary lights during its upcoming spring meet.
Faced with the possibility of the lights going dark this summer, management planned ahead and purchased four back-up generators to ensure rolling blackouts don't affect operations. But the energy crisis has already come at a cost...The power crisis also prompted Hollywood to bump up its start time on Fridays from 7:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Running lights at night would be too costly considering electricity prices will be increased up to 46% by this summer. The move could result in a drop in on-track attendance.
Hollywood Park plans to move its Friday night racing to the afternoons to cope with the state's ongoing power crisis. Post time for the first Friday night, April 20, will start at its traditional 7:15 p.m. But the post time for the remaining 12 Fridays during the track's spring meet will begin at 3:30 p.m.
