The Kentucky Horse Racing Authority is moving forward with renewal of an equine drug-testing contract with Iowa State University pending review of the document by the state Finance Cabinet and assurances test results will be expedited.
Turfway Park, which wrapped up its winter/spring meet April 1, reported across-the-board business increases even though it lost nine full cards and parts of six others during the session that began Jan. 1.
The Kentucky Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association, in conjunction with its annual dinner dance, will hold a silent auction March 15 to benefit the "Michael Rowland Family Fund." Rowland, a longtime jockey, died as a result of injuries suffered in a racing accident at Turfway Park in early February.

Veteran jockey Perry Ouzts won his 4,500th race Sunday at muddy Turfway Park after riding Private Ambition to a 1 3/4-length victory in the third race, a $5,000 claiming event.
Citing track conditions, Turfway Park canceled races 4-10 on Sunday's 10-race card. Three races were completed without incident. Racing is scheduled to resume Wednesday, February 11, at 5:30 p.m.

Turfway Park in Northern Kentucky will resume live racing tonight (Feb. 6) after canceling last night out of respect for injured jockey Michael Rowland, who remains in critical condition at University Hospital.
Out of continuing concern for the condition of jockey Michael Rowland, injured in a three-horse spill at Turfway Park Wednesday, track officials have cancelled live racing for Thursday. The decision was made in consultation with the trainers and jockeys based at Turfway.
