Tiznow's election into the Hall of Fame was not based solely on his two Breeders' Cup Classic victories. In addition to those two triumphs and his five-length romp in the Santa Anita Handicap, he set a track record in the Super Derby (gr. I), defeated eventual Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) winner Captain Steve in the Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II), and captured the San Fernando Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. II) and Affirmed Handicap (gr. III), while placing in five graded stakes.

Dual Classic Winner Tiznow to Race in 2002

A roar of approval went up from the gathering of media following the Breeders' Cup Classic when Tiznow's owner Michael Cooper announced that the son of Cee's Tizzy would race again next year. The announcement also brought a loud "whoop" from jockey Chris McCarron, who pumped his fist in the air.

When he opened the envelope containing the name of the Horse of the Year for 2000, Smith said simply: "Congratulations California, it's Tiznow."

California breeder-owner Cecilia Straub-Rubens, whose colt Tiznow took a major step toward Horse of the Year honors with a victory in the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), died the night of Nov. 7 at a Newport Beach hospital.
