Woodward Stakes (gr. I) winner Lemon Drop Kid breezed four furlongs in :50 over a fast track at Belmont Park Sunday as the 4-year-old son of Kingmambo prepares for a start in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I). Also working Sunday were Walkslikeaduck, Forest Camp, War Chant, Honest Lady, and Spanish Fern.

Lemon Drop Kid Wins Woodward Stretch Duel

Behrens, Skimming, and Lemon Drop Kid arrived at the top of the stretch three across the track, before Behrens, on the inside, and Lemon Drop Kid engaged in a stretch-long duel won by the latter in the $500,000 Woodward Stakes (gr. I) Saturday at Belmont. Under Edgar Prado, Lemon Drop Kid completed the 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.53 over a fast track, finishing a head in front of Behrens.

Lemon Drop Kid to Stand at Lane's End Farm

William S. Farish's Lane's End Farm and Mrs. Jeanne Vance announced Friday that Lemon Drop Kid, the 1999 Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner who won last weekend's Whitney Handicap, will go to the Versailles, Ky. farm to stand at stud when he retires following this year's Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) on Nov. 4. The 4-year-old colt will be syndicated with the stud fee to be determined later.
