For days, reporters have been asking Bill Mott about his successful season at Saratoga, where he leads all trainers with a 16-6-10 standing from 53 starts. For days, Mott has been realistic about his chances; he's seen other horsemen hit unexpected winning streaks, has known the dry spells that can suddenly hit a leading trainer's string. Just because he was ahead at week one, or week two, or week three of the meet doesn't mean he'll be the last man standing when they run the last race on the last day, and this is what Mott has been quick to say.
Bill Mott and Kent Desormeaux have both been red-hot at Saratoga this summer. In the 24th running of the $150,000 Lake Placid (gr. II) Aug. 17, the trainer-jockey tandem teamed up once again to defeat a group of talented 3-year-old fillies on the turf.
Christmas Kid, who boasts a wealth of accomplishments in her nine-start career, will look for her third graded victory in the Aug. 17 Lake Placid Stakes (gr. IIT) for 3-year-old fillies at Saratoga.

Trainer Bobby Barbara's summer in Saratoga Springs was almost perfect. "I was happy with our record," he said. "We won six races, but I'd give a few of them back to get her up. I really wanted to win that race."
Riskaverse is the sole graded stakes winner among a field of 11 expected to start Sunday in the $150,000 Lake Placid Handicap (gr. IIT) at Saratoga.
A dozen fillies and mares went to the post in the $150,000 Lake Placid Stakes (gr. IIT) at Saratoga and Snow Dance came away the winner in her first start against stakes company.
Gaviola made it five wins in a row with a clear-cut victory in Monday’s Lake Placid Handicap (gr. IIT) at Saratoga.
